Bertling’s paintings rescue elusive moments from our frantic modern pace. Convinced beauty stubbornly persists, his work calls us to listen well to the life and light around us.
A classically trained contemporary realist, Bertling paints from life. His work embodies a dream-like stillness--each piece pulsing with subtlety and atmosphere.
His home studio in Greenville, South Carolina, not far from where he was born and raised, provides much of his inspiration. Ever in progress, fine drawings and oil paintings line his studio walls, and his works hang in numerous private collections. Earlier this spring, he had his NYC debut solo show at Dacia Gallery in the East Village.
From Downtown Greenville, take US-29N/Wade Hampton Blvd towards Taylors. Walk under the carport and follow the short gravel path to the gray studio building in the backyard.
