Artist Statement

Hi, I’m Dori Baumwart, the artist behind Metalifics! (metal with an attitude). I spent over 40 years working in Information Technology for Corporate America, ensuring that every single detail was perfectly executed. Over 15 years ago, I realized that I had a very creative flair and I took a 3-day silversmithing workshop up in North Carolina. When a family member gave me an anvil that had been in the family for generations, I was off and running! I was amazed at how intoxicating it was to bend metal, watching it move into new shapes under my hammer. Then, I started experimenting (“What will happen to the color of this copper if I throw it in that roaring fire and then bake it?)! Now, when you couple all that creativity with big business experience, you get an artistic perfectionist! And you also get exciting jewelry that is, well, wonderfully perfect even when it looks chaotic! Of course, more than anything, you get Metal with an Attitude.”
