I am a portraitist (of humans and animals), as well as a painter of landscapes and still lifes. My representational style reflects my admiration for the work of John Singer Sargent, the animalière Rosa Bonheur, Russian landscape painters, and the color palette and depictions of light of the French Impressionists. My contemporary art “heroes” include Richard Schmid (may he rest in peace), Robert Johnson, and Mark Boedges.
With every painting I see and every painting class I take, I receive a gift from the artist – an interesting color combination, a brushstroke to emulate, a powerful composition, a unique application of paint. So naturally, I seek out opportunities to view art from all over the world and here at home. I also look for opportunities to pass along my gifts to others.
