I've always been fascinated by the human condition and mortality. I was drawn to portraiture at a very early age. It's exciting and powerful to be able to immortalize someone, and it's comforting to keep a tangible representation of them with you forever. I typically work both from life and reference photo. I stop short of overthinking the rendering process, letting the spirit and energy of the subject play as important a role as the technical skill in the creation of the piece. I am especially inspired by the skill and mathematical approach of Renaissance masters as well as the raw emotion of Abstract Expressionism.
