My work explores wildness—and the tension that exists between human beings and
nature. I use this theme to examine what it means to acknowledge both human and
animalistic urges: to be driven by rational thought as well as instinct, and to navigate
a world that demands both are recognized.
Visually, it exists somewhere between painting, drawing, and printmaking. My
subjects vary in their depictions of flora and fauna; still-life, abstract scenes of
nature, and animals in strange environments. Stylistically merging the past and
present, my work connects the tradition of figurative art and allegorical narrative,
while presenting a contemporary approach that examines industrialism, science, art
history, our complex relationship with the natural world, and the impact of the
Anthropocene.
