I create fine-tuned two-dimensional work in pastel, oil, watercolor, pencil and charcoal aiming for a realism built up through layers. I am inspired by anything organic or asymmetrical- such as landscape scenery, still lifes, and faces. I have been drawing commissioned pencil portraiture for about 10 years, beginning in my hometown of Charleston and carrying the business with me in a move to Anderson in 2015. Wanting to stretch out in color, I began experimenting with pastel in 2017.
I love to paint subject matter in a way that what might at first glance go unnoticed or appreciated is given attention and beauty.
My work is currently on display at the Art Gallery on Pendleton Square, and portrait commissions can be made through my website, www.margaretmattox.com.
