Artist Statement

I approach art as a visual thinker, shaped by learning English as a second language. I’ve always leaned on images to make sense of the world and to communicate. My style is abstract, often sitting on the edge of imagery and symbolism. I’m drawn to the challenge of expressing complex human ideas—things like memory loss, emotional reactions, social behavior, and unmet expectations, in ways that feel simple and approachable.

What inspires me most are the small thoughts and moments that make the ordinary seem extraordinary. I enjoy when art surprises us or helps us see familiar things from a different perspective. That emotional pull—the reaction someone has when they connect with a piece—is what drives me to create. I use flat shapes, geometric lines, and organic forms layered together to build not just images, but experiences. Sometimes I work directly on wood panels, adding materials to create relief and dimension, giving otherwise flat shapes a sense of depth and movement.
