I use pencil and ink on hot press watercolor paper to create systems within the human body with interposing floral forms; showing the similarities between the structures of the human body and the structures of the natural world. Through the intertwining of human anatomy and floral forms, I create narratives related to characteristics and properties that humans, animals, and plants (parts of nature) share. In my most recent work, Poison, I used non-poisonous lookalikes of poison plants native to South Carolina to illustrate the skull in a downward facing, defeated and rotting position. I used beautiful poisonous native plants to illustrate the skull in an upward facing and optimistic position. The comparison between these two forms demonstrates my personal struggle with generalized anxiety disorder and related invisible illnesses.
