At the beginning of 2021, I decided to pursue my interest in the fine arts world full time, and took a leap of faith leaving a 30 plus year career in the Marketing / Graphic Design field as a founding partner and designer in the Greenville based firm Brains On Fire. So I have struck out on a new and recent exciting journey as I begin to find and define myself as an “artist.” As an illustration major in college, years ago, I was always drawn to realism. So my work is definitely realist in nature as I try to capture what my eye sees there in front of me, whether it be working from photographic references or something from real life. In recent years I have been fortunate in acquiring commissions, painting things I love. Right now those things are lots of dogs and cats, some of my own, some of my family and lots of other peoples as well. As a bit of a fisherman, I also love the beauty, pattern and color I see in the many species of fish, trout in particular. I want to explore painting birds another love of mine and I have also begun to set up still life scenarios in the studio. Currently, I am probably the most excited about these anthropomorphic commissioned pet portraits I am doing in which the goal is to merge a beloved pet and it’s owner, capturing the spirit and personality of both the animal lover and the human lover in one painting. The result is kind of a pet portrayed in a humans world. When it’s all said and done, my hope is that my work will make someone smile. I am currently working in acrylics on art panels and canvas.
