Gennadiy Grushovenko is a Greenville, SC-based artist with over 30 years of studio art practice under his belt. His artistic journey began in Kyiv, Ukraine, continued through a beautiful chapter in LaGrange, Georgia, and ultimately landed in Greenville 13 years ago. Chief among his many inspirations are the abstract expressionist's primal use of color and their visceral, spontaneous approach to creation.
He has recently begun a new abstract body of work using paint techniques he modified and honed through painting with his wife and collaborator, Signe Grushovenko, for the past twenty-plus years. He almost never uses paint brushes; instead, he relies on his hands and improvised tools to facilitate unique mark-making and paint flow. He is creating pieces that explore fluidity and unpredictability by allowing the paint to move and take its own form on the canvas. It's like composing music, where motion and emotion work together to create a piece of art.
