This is a two day workshop for ages 12 and older. Saturday, April 5th from 10:00am to 4:00pm with an hour lunch break. Please bring your lunch or plan to visit one of our local restaurants. Sunday, April 6th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
Learn how to create ceramic sculpture that also plays tunes! Music adds a special dimension to ceramic forms that students will create by hand. The basic techniques taught will include how to create one note whistles and multiple note ocarinas. Students will learn how commonly used materials can be manipulated to create the split airways necessary for sound to be produced in a resonating chamber. We will determine the key an instrument is in with the use of a chromatic tuner and tuning upwards by ear. Techniques of playing the instruments will also be taught such using the British system in six hole ocarinas. We will also learn some special techniques to create vibrato, glides, slurs, buzzing, fluttering, etc. On day two we will learn how to fine tune and begin the decorating process. Glazing and firing will be competed at a later time, when instruments are fully dry.
