Artist Statement

My drawing practice consists of life sketching and recontextualizing my observations through meticulous graphite mark-making and disrupted figure-ground relationships. I draw subjects from my everyday life to explore concepts of home, memory, nostalgia, and routine.

My current series Nausea contends with the blurry lines between things. Uncanny figures inhabit dissolving spaces with repeated forms and texture, creating a sense of time and uncertainty. Underpinned by themes of absurdism, phenomenology, and existentialism, my drawings highlight the susceptibility of visual perception by embracing the essential properties of pencil in a two-dimensional space -- how meaning and presence is shifted by the simplest shifts of line and tone.
