James’ photographic style grew out of his desire to connect with the world around him. It is characterized by it’s highly experimental and unorthodox nature as illustrated by his lack of superficially cohesive subject matter. The world is a vast place and he seeks to understand many things, leading to this often sporadic approach.
It is intimate and yet disconnected. Ever evolving and entirely mercurial.
Ever hungry for new (and old) knowledge, he devours technique and distills it into his unique repertoire. Each series building on the last in unexpected ways.
He has deep roots in South Carolina where the vast majority of his concoctions originate, yet he struggles with a severe case of fernweh.
