Summer 2 Multi-Week Classes

Session Dates: August 17 – September 25, 2026 (6-Week Session)

Location: Tryon Arts & Crafts School Main Studios

Format: Multi-week instructional classes and facilitated group studio sessions across clay, glass, metal/jewelry, photography, and fiber arts.

Ceramics & Clay
Beginning to Intermediate Wheel: (Jim Cullen — Thursdays or Saturdays, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM) — Fundamentals of wheel throwing, centering, shaping, trimming, and glazing functional wares.

Intermediate Wheel Throwing: (Austin Burns — Tuesdays, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM) — Advanced forms, throwing larger volumes, handles, and altered wheel shapes.

All-Levels Independent Clay: (Austin Burns — Fridays, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM) — Open studio environment with instructor guidance for self-directed ceramic projects.

Pottery Group Studio Time: (Tom McNaney — Sundays, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM) — Dedicated studio practice for active clay students.

Glass Arts
All Levels Stained Glass: (Wendy West — Tuesdays, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM) — Copper foil and lead came assembly, pattern cutting, and soldering for glass art.

Fused Glass 1: (Wendy West — Thursdays, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM) — Glass cutting, design layering, mold slumping, and kiln-firing mechanics.

Fused Glass Group Studio Time: (Pam Herres — Wednesdays, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM) — Independent work time for experienced fused glass artists.

Jewelry & Metalsmithing
Introduction to Jewelry Making: (Allen Brown — Wednesdays, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM) — Sawing, filing, texturing, cold connections, and basic torch soldering for silver and copper.

Intermediate Silversmithing: (Allen Brown — Wednesdays, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM) — Complex fabrication, stone bezel settings, and advanced soldering layouts.

Jewelry Group Studio Time: (Jimmi Buell — Thursdays, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM) — Open bench time for jewelry students.

Photography
Photo 102: (Monica Stevenson — Tuesdays, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM) — Intermediate camera operation, manual light control, composition, and visual storytelling.

Photo History & Techniques: (Monica Stevenson — Wednesdays, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM) — Exploration of historic photographic processes, camera movements, and classic aesthetics.

Fiber Arts
Weaving Group Studio Time: (Tuesdays, 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM) — Guided open studio time for floor and rigid-heddle weavers.
