The musicians of Balalaika Fantasie draw inspiration from their life-long passion for Slavic folk music and their diverse backgrounds. Performing on authentic Russian folk instruments, their repertoire includes Russian, Ukrainian, Gypsy and Jewish folk music. Angelina Galashenkova-Reed is a virtuoso on the 3-string domra and a former member of the Andreev Orchestra of St. Petersburg. David C. Cooper, director, studied ethnomusicology at the University of Illinois and is in the Balalaika and Domra Association of America Hall of Fame. Gregory Carageorge, contrabass balalaika, is a former member of the Klezmorim and Troika Balalaikas. Natalia Rezvan-Rust on tenor domra graduated from music college in Kharkiv, Ukraine. And Kirill Chernov, on alto balalaika, is past president of the Balalaika and Domra Association of America. Together they present a varied program that is sure to delight and inspire.
