Introduction to Oil Painting: Working with the Zorn Palette

Discover the foundations of oil painting through the beauty and discipline of a limited color palette. This four-week course is designed for beginners and focuses on developing strong color mixing and painting skills using just a few carefully selected pigments, made famous by the Swedish painter Anders Zorn.

In the first week, students will learn to mix and organize colors by creating their own color wheel—building a deeper understanding of relationships between hues, values, and chroma. Over the following three weeks, students will apply these principles to a simple still life painting, exploring composition, light, and form while practicing brushwork and layering techniques.

By the end of the course, students will have a solid grasp of color mixing, painting preparation, and oil painting fundamentals, along with a still life that demonstrates their growing skill and confidence.
