ABOUT

The Metropolitan Arts Council established its Endowment for the Arts in 2009 with 5% of unrestricted income raised in 2008. The purpose of the endowment is to serve as a long-term funding source for grants to individual artists, arts organizations and arts education programs throughout Greenville County. The endowment currently has a balance of $1.841 million, and MAC will be withdrawing earnings from it once the balance reaches $3-5 million. During the pandemic, MAC withdrew $300,000 from it to provide relief funding to 33 local arts organizations. These funds were generously matched by the Graham Foundation, Hollingsworth Funds, the Community Foundation of Greenville and the Canal Charitable Foundation. A total of $678,950 was distributed to provide operational funds during COVID-19.
