Artist Statement

Sight is a gift to be continually unwrapped. I love to look at things and create images of things to look at. I believe that everything has some visually redeeming quality. I’m challenged to find that quality in objects and scenes and bring it out in artwork to share with others. I like to take a familiar subject and re-present it in a way that gives the viewer a chance to visually rediscover it. My intent is not just to recreate the object or scene but offer the experience of seeing it again for the first time. My style is therefore representational but painterly. I like to have fun, play with the viewer’s perceptions, create surprises. I strive to make paintings that strike up a conversation between the subject and the viewer.

Take 385 S, Columbia (15 mi); Take Exit 27, right onto Fairview Rd (6mi); turn right on McKelvy (.4 mi); turn left onto Hillside Church Rd and continue until you see 134 Hillside Church Rd. Park on the grass on the left of the gravel driveway and walk past the blue house. The studio is at the back of the barn behind the house with the studio door is at the back of the barn.
