Artist Statement

My work explores cultural hybridity through familial narratives, the body, and multiplicity as ways to examine assimilation. I’m drawn to the tension between individual and collective, creating sculptural collections that explore belonging, group dynamics, and the loss of self. As an Asian-American artist, I reference ancient art forms to reframe ideals through humor and double meaning—finding the funny in the formal through flesh, fruit, hair, and other objects of desire.. Much of my figurative work is rooted in the selfie - exploring identity and self-image through the material properties of clay. Across my practice, I question how value is constructed in relation to history, craft, and authorship - reframing clay’s legacy to speak to body, taste, and objectification.

Directions

My studio is located in the Roe Art Building at Furman University. From Downtown Greenville, take Poinsett Highway (US 276W) north towards Travelers Rest. Take the Furman University exit. At the front gate, bear right onto the traffic circle, then take the first right after McAlister Auditorium, onto Old Roe Ford Road / Carl Kohrt Drive (same street). The Roe Art Building and parking lot will be the first left on Old Roe Ford Road / Carl Kohrt Drive.
