Mission Statement

Our Mission Greenville Chautauqua brings history to life, through interactive theater, where compelling discussion stimulates critical thinking. We celebrate the diversity of our culture through a variety of voices from the past. Because our history belongs to all of us, we are committed to keeping our events free, fun and accessible to the entire community.

About

More than history. More than a performance. More than a story. We are Chautauqua, a nonprofit, experiential oral tradition that brings history to life through interactive theater and compelling discussion aimed at stimulating critical thinking.

It’s a chance to step into Living History – to ask questions and go one on one with the people who shaped our country and our world. You can debate the Constitution with our forefathers, laugh out loud with Mark Twain, get arrested with Rosa Parks, or walk the Trail of Tears. And all the shows are free, fun and family friendly.

Chautauqua’s signature production is the June History Alive Festival. It’s ten-days straight with two full weekends of non-stop live history and fun for the whole family. A different show outdoors each night and more indoors during the day. 30+ FREE shows performed by nationally acclaimed historical interpreters. You'll laugh – you'll cry – you'll have lots of questions. And they’ll be answered.
We invite you, the artistic, the intellectually curious, the adventure seekers, the historians, and all our friends in the community to step back in time and experience history come to life. Bring your stories. Share your experiences. Get inspired. Because it’s not just history – it’s personal.
