"Fascinated by the idea that color and shape can be language, my work often uses signal flags, or traffic signs as a point of departure. Pushing beyond their parameters of solid color, simple shape, and succinct communication, I relax and extend the syntax of flags and signs, to explore the idea that color and shape themselves can form a language of storytelling and navigation.
My work is a bridge between abstraction and representation; compositions allude to map and landscape shapes, to the geographic formations of mounds and ruins, to agricultural fields and land art, to the built environment and political boundaries.
As for myself, I have been staring at and thinking about paintings and photographs for decades. I live, shoot and paint in Greenville, South Carolina."
