Fred Wood Bio & Artist Statement

A 1966 cum laude graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, Fred has lived in Greenville for 53 years. He was a registered architect for his career and has earned many state and national design awards.

In 1976 he served as president of the Greenville Artists Guild. He participated in a three-person exhibit at the Greenville County Art Museum in 1978. He has participated in many local and statewide juried art shows in which he has earned numerous awards. He participated in Greenville Open Studios for seven years. He now focuses on painting in watercolor and encaustics.

Fred’s daughter, Attee Leigh, lives in Simpsonville with her husband and four children. He and his wife Kathy belong to Triune Mercy Center. They live at the Woodlands at Furman.

Fred paints from his own experiences. It could be childhood places connected to those he loved. Or it could be with other people from other cultures or experiences that he finds commonalities with. It could also be feelings of uncertainty that resolve themselves over time. Or experiences from other worlds beyond our everyday life.

If other people find something there to relate to, then I believe I have been successful in my work.

A reception will be held on Jan. 16th from 5-7 pm at the Greenville Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 1135 State Park Road. parking in the upper back lot.
