The Three Tenors ...
Before there were the 3 Tenors of opera fame, there were the giants of tenor saxophone: Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins and the man they called Pres, Lester Young. Later came the titans of the tenor sax, as heard on the Blue Note Recording, The Three Tenors featuring Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins, and John Coletrane. Wheel Session 97 pays tribute to these Jazz Masters, as well as to their contemporaries Joe Henderson and Wayne Shorter. Furman University’s Director of Jazz Studies, Dr. Matt Olson, will lead The Three Tenors performance. He will be joined by fellow tenor saxophonists (and former students) Peter Dimery and Matthew Storie for a good natured “Battle Royale”, and most importantly, a wonderful evening of swinging jazz! Rounding out the ensemble will be pianist Sean Higgins, bassist Connor Law, and drummer Kevin Korschgen.
