My goal was to create a collection of images that honor the
liminal, quiet time between work and home—the spaces where we catch our breath,
where our minds can wander or focus, where we can recollect ourselves and
remember what matters. These paintings are not portraits of women I know. They are
meant to represent strangers I catch a glimpse of every once in a while who
seem to be conscious of the special gift of in-between time... the time where
we're transitioning from the day's work to whatever comes next. It's a rare but
beautiful sight to see someone catching her breath, because it reminds me that
we all share that bond as humans—the need to pause, to hold space for silence
or prayer or imagining. I’ve painted women cherishing these moments rather than
wasting them, not because I’m an expert at this, but because I want to lean
into it.
