The fifth season in Japan is called “tsuyu,” the brief rainy season between spring and summer. While my recent series “Sakura” uses the cherry blossom as the seasons’ motif, each of my series in essence represents a “season.” Seasons of survival during the gingko's 200 million years. Seasons of cultural development during Japan’s Edo period. Seasons of a few masked years for humans during COVID. Seasons of migration for generations of butterflies. It is a love of Japanese aesthetic, and a curiosity of what a season can represent, that inspire this exhibit “the fifth season."
Artwork on display through mid September. Gallery hours: Tuesdays 6-8pm & Saturdays 10am-2pm.
Reception: Tuesday, August 29, 6-8pm
