Art & Light Gallery is happy to present Sunblind, a solo exhibition of work by Hannah Yanetsko (Davidson, N.C.) launching on the Art & Light website at https://artandlightgallery.com... and in the gallery at 10am (EST) on Tuesday, February 27 with an opening reception on Friday, March 1 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.
Hannah Yanetsko is a mixed media artist, largely recognized for her Other Ocean series of aerial view oceanscapes punctuated with figures adrift in edgeless bodies of water. Her large scale paintings of oceans and sea life adrift in the water create a sense of quiet mystery and solitude. Yanetsko is inspired by the ocean’s perpetual movement, which she emulates by coating her work with a brilliant resin surface that captures and reflects light. Inside these Other Oceans, relationships begin to appear between figures, subtly juxtaposing anonymity and familiarity while blurring the line between memory and dream. Her work invites the viewer to take a closer look. A neutral palette becomes a world of nuanced color and textural mark making — a balance that feels grounded and quietly avant-garde.
In addition to Yanetsko’s aerial view depictions of figures adrift in the Other Ocean series, Sunblind takes the viewer deeper with new work exploring subjects beneath the water’s surface. The mixed media work included in Sunblind contrasts light and perception in concert with a powerful resonance. Together, the work depicts both night –dark as the endless immensity of the sea– and a determined resolve to find light; a realization that invites the viewer to contemplate impermanence and transformation.
