Say What?! Extended Open Mic is at Coffee Underground on Sunday! Host Southern Stylez featuring Azar King. All poetry styles welcome: page or stage! A fun full night of open mic slots for local poets on a first-come, first serve basis. Open mic poets may read/recite one poem.
Say What?! feature Azar King is not just a visual creator—he is a father, a P.O.E.T., a POEMEDIAN, and a living example of what it means to never give up. Hailing from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, now lives in Greenville for the past five years. Azar also brings a tactile artistry to his expression through crochet, proudly calling his creations The Krochet Doc.
Azar uses poetry as a tool for healing, a platform to amplify the voices of the unheard, and a mirror to reflect both pain and power. Rather than labeling his pieces as traditional poetry, he calls them The Scriptures of My Legacy—living testaments to perseverance, transformation, and truth. As a member of the Say What?! Slam Team based in Greenville, SC, Azar has been making waves in the spoken word community for the past three years. His accolades include back-to-back slam wins in Fountain Inn, and performances that earned him top rankings in major regional competitions, including a second-place finish at both the King of the South Slam and the Grand Slam in 2024.
Known on stage for his explosive energy and vivid lyricism, Azar describes himself as a Tornado—a swirling force of wordplay and imagery. From Big M boots to designer suits, his journey defies the limitations of circumstance. Under aliases like MR.GOOOTTTDDDAAAAYYYUUMMMHIMSELF and Azar -15, his lyrics are definitely LAZAR BEAMZ.
