Say What?! Team at Coffee Underground featuring ShAy Black

Say What?! Open Mic is at Coffee Underground on Sunday with Team Feature ShAy Black! Host Azar King. All poetry styles welcome! The night will also feature open mic slots for local poets on a first-come, first serve basis. Open mic poets may read/recite one poem.

Say What?! Feature ShAy Black is a 30-year retired U.S Army veteran poet, visual and teaching artist, youth advocate, business owner of ShAy Black Expressions from Greenville, SC. She started writing poetry in 2016 after the death of son. She​ ​attended​ ​Converse College where she received a BFA in ceramics & sculpture and MFA in creative writing in poetry. Her passion is to teach young artists the joy of creating art as a SmartArts instructor with Metropolitan Art Council and Art Reaching Middle Elementary Schools (ARMES) with Greenville County School district. Her business is rooted in transformation—writing and creating to inspire others to look inward for healing and truth. Navigating grief, depression, and anxiety, She uses her craft to reclaim her identity beyond pain. She believes in the power of art as a gathering place—a way to bridge cultural divides and foster healing, one heArt at a time. She is a four-time team member of the Say What?! Slam Team in Greenville, SC, and has also competed with Team Injustice in Spartanburg, SC.
