Growing up surrounded by the natural beauty of Sweden’s west coast—nestled between the sea, forests, and countless lakes—she developed a deep and lasting appreciation for the outdoors. This connection to nature, particularly the sea and the unique archipelago near her hometown, continues to inspire her work today. An avid sailor in her youth, Nina found herself naturally drawn to the vastness and movement of the ocean, which has become a recurring theme in her art.
Nina has always been fascinated by how the world is interpreted through the eyes of others, and by the emotional landscapes found in artistic expression. Her passion for art has been a lifelong journey, leading her to develop a unique, personal style rooted in emotion and intuition. Working primarily in acrylic, she specializes in large-format canvases where she layers color and texture, blending impressionistic and abstract elements. Her work is deeply personal, with each piece reflecting her inner landscape and emotional resonance.
She studied Art and the Creative Process and Media and Communications at Halmstad University in Sweden, where her artistic expression began to take form through various creative outlets. During her time there, she hosted her own radio show, explored photography, and was selected for a documentary film project highlighting 30 artists at a summer art exhibition in Halmstad. She participated in her first group exhibition through the university and soon after held her debut solo exhibition in Österlen, a well-known artists’ enclave in southern Sweden.
Nina’s journey later took her across Europe and ultimately to the United States in 1996, where she worked as an au pair in Cary, North Carolina. It was there she met her husband, John. They married in 1999, and John’s career led them through eight relocations across the U.S. and one international move to Germany. In 2016, they finally settled in Greenville, South Carolina, where they now live with their three sons: Logan, Blake, and Dallas.
Throughout the many moves and phases of life, Nina never lost touch with her creative spirit. She continued to create and sell artwork, completing various commissions along the way. Now, with her children growing up and more time to devote to her craft, Nina is embracing this new season and dedicating herself more fully to her art.
With a renewed sense of focus and inspiration, she is excited to see where her creative journey will lead. Nina hopes that her artwork resonates deeply with viewers and brings beauty, emotion, and reflection to those who experience it.
