Since its inception in 1986, Downtown Alive has provided a major income stream for MAC’s services and programs. Now in its 30th year, the Thursday evening event that ran from March through August was attended by an estimated 85,000 people who gathered on North Main Street to enjoy live music and beverages. Downtown Alive is a major force in the economy of downtown Greenville. The City of Greenville Special Events Department has been an outstanding partner in organizing and handling all the logistics of the event. Department Head Angie Prosser and her capable and dedicated staff members are to be commended for their time, efforts and commitment to success of Downtown Alive.
For the seventh consecutive year, The MAC Arts Tent was a great feature of the event, giving exposure to MAC’s individual and organizational constituents. Every Thursday, these artists and arts groups were able to display and sell their work as well as tickets to performances. These artists’ and groups’ presences have been instrumental in creating greater awareness of the many spectacular visual artists and cultural amenities that make Greenville such a wonderful city.
We are very appreciative of those who participated throughout the 2017 season, and we will be offering The MAC Arts Tent this season (see application).
We would like to thank the 2017 sponsors of Downtown Alive. We are very thankful for their support this past season and look forward to working with them again in the future.
