SUMMARY:Art & Light | Anchorage Exhibition Series: Gretta McCall
DESCRIPTION:Art & Light Gallery and The Anchorage Restaurant are pleased to announce the inaugural exhibition in their 2026 partnership series. A solo exhibition featuring work by local Greenville\, S.C. artist Gretta McCall will be on view at The Anchorage in the Village of West Greenville from January 6 to April 7\, 2026. The Anchorage Exhibition Series brings art beyond the walls of Art & Light Gallery to offer an immersive experience that fuses culinary and visual arts at The Anchorage Restaurant. \nGretta McCall’s paintings explore the complex interplay between ourselves and the natural world\, moving fluidly between abstraction and recognizable subject matter. Her process begins with an immersive “drawing expedition” into nature. These explorations result in quick\, expressive studies of compelling landscapes and forms\, which then serve as the source material for her paintings. Her work is driven by the desire to express emotion with the medium\, utilizing a love of color to explore endless possibilities and relationships. McCall states\, “The landscape has become the subject for exploration because nature has been my refuge\, solace and companion since I was a child. Each painting must have a distinct voice. Through the painting process I become aware of the deep places within me that are becoming a part of the painting. Life demands that we embody joy and sorrow simultaneously. Therefore\, I seek to reflect this in my work”. \nJoin Gretta McCall for an intimate artist talk on Thursday\, February 12 from 5:00-6:30 PM. Enjoy a signature cocktail by mixologist Mills Higgins along with Chef Zurkey curated small bites inspired by Gretta’s paintings. Ticket sales are limited with 25 spaces available. Visit The Anchorage to purchase tickets for the event. While Gretta McCall’s exhibition is on view at The Anchorage restaurant\, work included in the show is available for purchase through Art & Light Gallery. \nEXHIBITION DETAILS\nGretta McCall Solo Exhibition January 6 – April 7\, 2026\nArtist Talk: Thursday\, February 12 | 5 – 6:30pm The Anchorage Restaurant\, 586 Perry Ave.\, Greenville\, SC 29611

SUMMARY:Retranslation
DESCRIPTION:Tiger Strikes Asteroid\, Greenville presents Retranslation\, a group exhibit and critique of colonialism and the traditional archive. Artists Rosalba Breazeale\, Bonnie Han Jones and Benjamin Lundberg Torres Sanchez each cultivate a community influenced by their own personal journeys as transnational adoptees. By breaking apart stereotypical narratives through the creation and translation of their own archives\, they challenge the trope of adoptees lacking identity. Together\, these artists utilize their intersectional positionality to examine indigeneity\, activism and identity in their work\, their in-betweenness becoming both end point and a catalyst for agency. \nThe opening reception will be Friday\, March 6 and there will be a virtual artist talk on March 12 at 5pm in conjunction with El Centro\, University of South Carolina Upstate.

SUMMARY:Cowpens Potters - The Work of Winton & Rosa Eugene Exhibit & Public Reception
DESCRIPTION:Public Reception: March 12\, 6:30 – 7:30pm\nRuntime: March 13 – May 8\, 2026 \nTryon Arts & Crafts School (TACS) is proud to exhibit the work and artistic legacy of celebrated artists Winton and Rosa Eugene. Married in 1968\, the Eugenes are mainstays of the vibrant Southern craft tradition that is clay. Their history in ceramics began in 1986 as a second career. They devoted themselves to studying the medium and built a commercially successful studio\, Pottery by Eugene\, operating in Cowpens\, South Carolina. They typically collaborate to create vibrant\, distinctive stoneware including functional wares\, face jugs\, as well as larger sculptural pieces. American Craft magazine called them “a marriage of making.” As Rosa wrote\, “Winton loves design and I am captured by shapes and colors. In our creative dance\, we combine these passions so that the final product moves with balance and harmony.” \nThe Eugene’s dedication to their craft has earned them wide-ranging acclaim and recognition. Their pottery is frequently featured in major collections and exhibitions throughout the region and beyond. By 2000\, they were selected as members of the African-American Design Archive at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum at the Smithsonian Institution in New York. In 2016\, the couple received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Carolina Upstate (where Rosa also graduated)\, recognizing their significant contributions. Their commitment extends beyond creation\, as they have spent years sharing the history\, techniques\, and cultural importance of their artistic lineage\, particularly within the African American ceramic art traditions of the Upstate region of South Carolina. \nThe pieces exhibited at TACS are richly varied in size\, form\, and function but all showcase the Eugenes’ deep mastery of the ceramic medium. The works’ rich glazes and tactile textures often comment on contemporary social issues such as community\, history\, civil rights\, and more. Much of their work tells stories relating to their lives and values\, suggesting the rich possibilities of meaning embedded in their work.

SUMMARY:Greenville Technical College's 36th Annual Upstate High School Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Visual Arts at Greenville Technical College is thrilled to announce the 36th Annual Upstate High School Art Exhibition (AUHSAE). 49 teachers from 25 Upstate high schools across 7 counties submitted 195 works from182 students. The exhibition consists of 13 categories including traditional medias such as drawing\, painting\, and ceramics\, but also specialized medias such as fiber\, metals\, and animation. AUHSAE is a true survey of the quality and variety of visual arts in Upstate South Carolina high school programs. \nAUHSAE is a juried exhibition with the initial jurying process completed by the participating high school art educators. Each one chose student works to represent the quality and diversity of their individual programs. All their selections are on view. A professional artist\, without access to student\, teacher\, or school identities\, chooses awards within each category. Each AUHSAE cash award is divided between the winning student and that student’s art program. \nThe 2026 AUHSAE Awards Juror is Elizabeth Snipes\, professor in the Art + Design Department at Lander University. Elizabeth teaches painting\, drawing\, and leads summer travel courses. She received her BA degree in studio art from Furman University\, followed by a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Painting from Studio Art Centers International in Florence\, Italy\, and lastly her MFA from Clemson University. Elizabeth was awarded the Lander Distinguished Professor Award in 2021. In her Juror’s Statement\, Elizabeth commented\, “In viewing the exhibition\, I was immediately struck by the sheer amount of quality artworks in such a wide range of media. As an uUstate SC native who grew up in a small town with only a few art classes at the time\, I marvel at the array of creative experiences our students now are exposed to! It is certainly an exciting time to be a young maker. A whopping 13 categories of creative expression are included in this show\, each iterating a common core of the visual elements in a myriad of combinations uniquely suited to each set of media and techniques.” \nOn Wednesday\, April 15\, beginning at 6:30pm\, the 36th Annual Upstate High School Art Exhibition award winners and their schools will be recognized at the AUHSAE Awards Presentation in GTC’s Benson Campus amphitheater. If need be\, the presentation will move indoors to the commons area of Building 301. GTC’s Department of Visual Arts also produces an exhibition catalog picturing each award-winning work and listing all AUHSAE participants. The 36thAUHSAE catalog will be available for students and their teachers at the Awards Presentation. \nThe AUHSAE’s cash awards and the exhibition catalog are made possible through grants from the Jean T. and Heyward G. Pelham Foundation\, Elbert W Rogers Foundation\, and the Metropolitan Arts Council. APCO Plastics and the GTC Foundation provide additional funding. Thank you all for your generous support of these young artists and Upstate visual arts education.

Their paintings capture nature in motion—where color\, light\, and form evoke the rhythms of renewal\, growth\, and resilience. \nPresented at Neighborhood Cancer Connection\, the exhibition reflects the organization’s mission of support and healing. Just as nature continually renews itself\, the works in this show remind us that hope often appears in quiet but powerful ways—in color\, movement\, and the beauty that surrounds us. \nAllison Ford is a lawyer and abstract/collage artist from Greenville\, South Carolina.  Her work is inspired by her children\, her faith\, bright colors and the sky\, and organic shapes. She tends to paint her feelings and gravitates toward bold colors\, incorporating many textures\, depth\, and layers. Notably\, Allison received the 2024 Dwain Skinner Open Studios Fellows award. She works frequently with interior designers and families alike\, and her work can be found in commercial spaces\, retail locations\, and beautiful homes throughout the Southeast and the United States. \nCaroline Calder\, a Greenville-based artist\, brings a contemplative and expressive voice to the exhibition. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media\, Calder explores color\, texture\, and pattern through an intuitive process that reflects both the natural world and the inner landscape of the human experience. Notably\, she is the recent recipient of the Metropolitan Arts Council 2025 Renato Vicario Award presented to an artist who demonstrates a thriving consistency and a dedication to their craft. Her work invites viewers into a space of reflection and hope—encouraging a sense of possibility and forward movement. Calder’s work has been exhibited at Centre Stage\, Fork & Plough\, Thornback Gallery\, and the Indie Craft Parade Mini Market\, as well as in juried exhibitions across the Upstate. She is the recipient of multiple awards\, including honors from the Metropolitan Arts Council\, Camperdown Art Walk\, and Anderson Arts Center\, and was a finalist and People’s Choice Award winner in the BMW Pro-Am Poster Contest. \nNeighborhood Cancer Connection\n113 Mills Ave\nGreenville\, SC 29605\n864.232.8439\nwww.NCCgreenville.org

SUMMARY:Cultivated Chaos: Cora Morris\, Teresa Roche\, Laurel Siwicki
DESCRIPTION:Art & Light Gallery is thrilled to present Cultivated Chaos an exhibition of work by Cora Morris (Savannah\, G.A.)\, Teresa Roche (Greenville\, S.C.) and Laurel Siwicki (Niceville\, F.L.) launching on the Art & Light website and in the gallery at 10am (EST) on Tuesday\, March 31 with an opening reception on Friday\, April 3 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Cultivated Chaos unites the work of three unique artists\, each interpreting plant life through diverse techniques—from ceramics and cyanotypes to painting and mixed-media collage. The artists share snippets of their favorite gardens\, whether carefully cultivated or wildly untamed – to explore the many stages of growth and decay. From the emergence of new growth to exuberant flourish\, decay and quiet renewal. Together the work forms a living tableau\, an organic array that celebrates the beauty of impermanence and the perpetual life cycle in the garden. Whether rough or refined\, chaotic or composed\, this exhibition invites viewers to linger in the in-between spaces—where growth meets decay\, and endings are never truly final.

SUMMARY:Laurie Buck: The Light Breaks Through
DESCRIPTION:“the art gallery @ NCC” presents Greenville’s own Laurie Buck with her collection “The Light Breaks Through”: an exhibition benefitting the Neighborhood Cancer Connection (NCC)\, a Greenville-based nonprofit providing free practical\, emotional\, and educational support to individuals and families facing cancer. \nWhen you purchase a piece from this collection\, a portion of the proceeds will be donated directly to NCC\, allowing you to collect original artwork while supporting meaningful work in our community. \n“My work often examines light: how it returns fresh each morning\, a symbol of hope and possibility\, and moves through the world with quiet persistence. In this body of work\, light is both subject and structure\, expressed through floral and purely abstract compositions. I’m always drawn to the idea that beauty can emerge even in chaos and difficulty both in art and in life. Sharing this exhibition at the Neighborhood Cancer Connection feels especially meaningful\, as their work reflects this same belief that light\, beauty\, and compassion can break through bringing hope even in the most difficult seasons.” – Laurie Buck\, 2026 \nhttps://artgalleryatncc.my.canva.site/\nHttps://www.NCCgreenville.org\nhttps://lauriebuckstudio.com/cancerbenefitcollection

SUMMARY:Exhibit V... Believe
DESCRIPTION:Every 68 seconds\, someone in America is sexually assaulted… \nExhibit V… Believe is an innovative\, experiential multi-media art installation\, confronting one of the most damaging questions survivors of sexual assault are asked: “What were you wearing?” That question shifts blame\, distorts truth\, and reduces a life-altering trauma to a garment. \nThis exhibit rejects that narrative by creating a poignant display of garments\, art and information that accurately educates the community. Believing survivors is the first step to offenders being held accountable\, reporting to increase\, and hope and healing to take place. \nExhibit V… Believe is a compilation of art installation segments\, all designed to create a sensory experience that sharpens awareness of sexual assault and the realities faced by victims. The purpose is to help people recognize vulnerability when they encounter a survivor in need and know how to respond by directing them to Julie Valentine Center (JVC)\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming survivors’ lives from trauma toward healing\, stability\, and the ability to re-engage with life with restored agency and safety. \nJoin us as we further our mission of using the arts as a vehicle of healing and hope. SUMMARY:Night Shifts with Emily Randolph
DESCRIPTION:Visit mixed-media abstract artist Emily Randolph in Studio A at the Greenville Center for Creative Arts on April 3\, 5-8PM during the GCCA’s Night Shift evening. \nEmily Randolph is an American contemporary artist whose work centers on abstraction informed by the rhythms of the natural world. Known for her minimalist compositions on birch wood panels\, Randolph creates paintings that explore the dialogue between color\, light\, and architectural silence. Her practice balances intuitive gesture with deliberate reduction\, producing works that are simultaneously expressive and contemplative. \nOriginally trained in photography and design and influenced by the perceptual questions posed by modernist abstraction\, Randolph developed a visual language that distills landscape into essence rather than depiction. The tactile presence of birch wood — chosen for its tonal warmth\, strength\, and organic architecture — provides both a conceptual anchor and a physical counterpoint to her restrained palette and layered surfaces. Her work has been acquired by private collectors across the United States\, and continues to evolve in scale and atmospheric depth. Randolph lives and works in South Carolina\, where proximity to water\, horizon lines\, mountains and open light remains an enduring catalyst for her artistic inquiry. \nwww.EmilyRandolph.com\nInfo.emrART@gmail.com\n101 Abney Street\nUpstairs in Studio A\nGReenville\, SC 29611
