SUMMARY:Sea to Studio: Jewelry from Coastal Treasures
DESCRIPTION:Turn Your Treasured Beach Finds Into Beautiful Wearable Jewels!\nAs summer fades into fall\, give your coastal treasures new life. In this hands-on\, one-day class\, you’ll learn how to drill seashells\, shark teeth\, and other found objects to transform them into stunning wearable pieces. \nWe’ll walk you through how to safely work with fragile natural materials\, add gold or silver findings\, and assemble a one-of-a-kind necklace or charm cluster that captures the spirit of your summer. \nWhat you’ll learn: \n*How to safely drill and/or capture shell\, bone\, coral\, sea glass\, or fossil materials \n*Design principles for creating beautiful wearable compositions \n*Tips for securing unusually shaped objects and working with raw metal wire \n*Beginner Soldering (with special considerations for fragile found objects) \n*Professional finishing with sterling or gold findings \nBring your own beachcombed treasures or select something from our curated studio collection. \n*We recommend bringing more objects than you expect to use so that we can select the pieces that are best suited to our working methods. \n*Each student will make a minimum of 1 piece\, but many students will make several\, depending on complexity. \nNo experience necessary! Just bring your creativity and curiosity. \nThis class is perfect for beginners!

SUMMARY:Handmade Baskets & Prongs
DESCRIPTION:In this course\, intermediate to advanced silversmithing students will be introduced to the technical aspects of both creating their own basket settings and prong setting faceted stones. Students will have the opportunity to practice and develop their own personal skills in basket fabrication and in prong setting stones. Skills learned can be applied to all future projects. \nNOTE: The goal of this class is strictly technical. Students will not focus on making a ‘final piece’ in this workshop\, rather\, they will focus intently on developing the skills to effectively and accurately create custom baskets. Students who have never prong set will also practice this separately. \nThe cost of this class does not include the cost of silver. Students can bring their own faceted stone (round or oval) that are at least 9mm in size. If students don’t have their own stones\, Katie will have some inexpensive practice stones to choose from on site. \n*If advanced students have a project near completion they would like to make a setting for\, they are encouraged to bring this with them to assemble and finish. Examples would be a bracelet\, pendant\, or ring with all other features already fabricated. Please don’t plan to make a piece AND a setting in this class — there simply will not be time. \nPrerequisite: Some prior silversmithing experience is helpful\, including proficiencies in sawing\, soldering\, and bezel setting.
