SUMMARY:Fine Arts Center Winds Chamber Fall Concert
DESCRIPTION:This program offers a representative overview of chamber music for winds and brass from the Baroque period to the present. Works by Quantz and Bach demonstrate early contrapuntal writing and the emerging idiomatic possibilities of wind instruments\, while Mozart reflects the Classical era’s emphasis on clarity of form and balance. Twentieth-century perspectives are explored through the folk-influenced rhythmic language of Béla Bartók and the experimental sonorities of Henry Cowell. Music by contemporary composer Catherine McMichael introduces a contrasting modern tonal and lyrical approach. Taken together\, the program highlights the evolution of style\, texture\, and instrumentation across more than three centuries of repertoire for winds and brass.

SUMMARY:Vestiges — A Solo Exhibition by Linda McCune
DESCRIPTION:The Fine Arts Center’s Sheffield Wood Gallery is proud to present Vestiges\, a solo exhibition of multi-media sculptures and drawings by renowned South Carolina artist Linda McCune. The exhibition will be on view from July 7 through September 4\, 2025\, and is free and open to the public by appointment. \nMcCune’s powerful body of work draws deeply from her personal and cultural roots in rural Tennessee. Her work is grounded in personal narrative and regional identity\, expressed through intricate forms that explore memory\, place\, and the layered complexity of the human experience. \nOver the course of her distinguished career\, McCune has been featured in exhibitions across the United States and abroad. Her work is held in numerous private and public collections\, including the South Carolina State Art Collection\, the Hunter Museum of American Art\, the Columbia Museum of Art\, the Asheville Museum of Art\, and the American University in Paris\, among others. \nHer practice has been reviewed by publications such as Atlanta Art Papers\, South Writ Large\, and featured on ETV’s VERVE and Positively South Carolina. McCune is a recipient of numerous honors\, including the SC State Artist Fellowship\, the Carl R. Blair Award for Commitment to Arts Education\, and the National NISOD Award for teaching excellence. \nIn Vestiges\, McCune invites viewers into a deeply personal exploration of materials\, form\, and story\, shaped by decades of studio practice and her continuing evolution as an artist and educator.
