Revision: Getting from the first draft to story that’s ready to submit for publication.

Instructor – Heather Marshall
Sundays: Jan 14, 21, 28 and Feb. 4,  2 to 4 PM
Coffee Underground, 1 East Coffee St, Greenville, SC 29601

Cost – $125

Class description: You’ve heeded all the writerly advice to ‘just write’. You have several stories, or a memoir, or a novel (or two) drafted. Perhaps you’ve submitted them. And received a rejection email, or fifty. You suspect your story could be better, but you’re not quite sure how to accomplish that.

In this workshop, we’ll spend the beginning of each session exploring approaches to revision—choices we make with regards to time, scene and summary, language—and then workshop. By the end of the four weeks, participants will have a keener eye for their own writing and an understanding of what’s working in the draft that they bring, and what they might try give the work a better chance at publication.

Heather Marshall is an author and teacher who lives in Greenville. Her novel, The Thorn Tree (MP Publishing) released in July, 2014.  Most recently, her work has been anthologized in Scotland, in Words from and Island, Vol II., and in the US in Quarried: Three Decades of Pine Mountain Sand & Gravel. Heather is currently at work on a novel that explores identity and the hidden stories of women.
