SUMMARY:Greenville Open Studios 2025
DESCRIPTION:2025 Open Studios features 160 local artists in 96 locations! Greenville Open Studios celebrates the local visual arts community with free studio tours for the public. This exciting tradition is now celebrating its 23rd year! What began as an idea among a small group of artists to raise awareness of their practice in the greater community has evolved into a full-fledged annual event. \nBe sure to pick up a catalog at the MAC office or use our Open Studios App: https://app.greenvilleopenstudios.com/Artists \nThe goals of Greenville Open Studios are to provide free and convenient community access to visual arts\, to educate and create a dialogue between artists and the general public by opening artists’ places of work and inviting the community-at-large to participate in the creative process and to create new marketing opportunities for artists. It is the organizers’ desire that the project will open up the world of visual artists to everyone – from the seasoned collector to the first-time art buyer to the curious general public.Last year\, the 2024 self-guided tour featured 147 artists and their 100 studio locations throughout a 15-mile radius of downtown Greenville with Easley\, Greer\, Travelers Rest and Simpsonville. The new Open Studios catalog will be released in October 2025. The Open Studios catalogue serves as a vital resource for art supporters\, and will be available after the event throughout the year. Stop by at any time of the year and pick up a Open Studios brochure to learn more about MAC and Open Studios!

By letting my subconscious be the guide\, it could be architecture\, shapes\, light or textures that may draw me in. My main goal is to capture the feeling that\, that subject invokes in me. All images in ‘Take a Walk with Me’ are from travels earlier this year.“ -Abhay Bharadwaj \nCentre Stage Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Friday 2 – 5 pm \nBe sure to catch the New Play Festival\, November 20-22\, 2025 & Every Christmas Stories Ever Told\, December 4 – 21\, 2025\nCall (864) 233-6733 for tickets or visit centrestage.org

SUMMARY:SHELLEY CADE | People Are Strange
DESCRIPTION:The Metropolitan Arts Council is proud to present “People Are Strange”\, a solo exhibition by Greenville artist\, Shelley Cade. Opening Reception September 12th\, 6-8pm. Exhibition runs September 12th – October 17th. \n📍 Metropolitan Arts Council | 16 Augusta Street\, Greenville\, SC\n📅Opening reception: September 12\, 6 – 8 PM\n🆓 Free \nWe invite you to meet Cade’s “strangers”. These distinctive portraits and sculptures all have a story to tell within their expressive lines and atmospheric colors. \nAs Cade shares:\n“My approach to expressing people with a paintbrush often gets weird. But the scratchy layers of paint\, pencil marks\, charcoal smudges and adulterated features — I’ve found — only enhance the story telling. Each of us comes into the world a blank canvas\, and it’s the brush marks of experience which tell our stories and shape who we are.”

SUMMARY:"As I See It" - Lu Wixon
DESCRIPTION:Lu Wixon invites you to the opening reception for her solo show titled “As I see It” at the Metropolitan Arts Council on July 24\, 2025. Come meet the artist\, enjoy light refreshments\, and see her artwork! \nLu grew up in Lafayette\, Louisiana where she earned a BFA from the University of Louisiana.  After graduation\, she spent two years in Trinidad\, West Indies\, quickly earning a reputation as an artist.  She currently lives in Greenville\, South Carolina with her husband where she is involved in the arts community as an artist and former arts educator.  Lu exhibits regularly in the Carolinas and Louisiana and welcomes the community into her studio. \nI paint on wood because I enjoy the organic feel the surface evokes.  Line\, shape\, color\, and negative space\, are the tools I use to portray my feelings of the joy and beauty of the world. The “outlines’ in my work are actually where I don’t paint\, allowing the wood surface to be part of the composition.  My current subjects include figures interacting with the landscape and various aspects of nature.  A partial documentation of my body of work is available at www.LuWixon.com.

SUMMARY:“Desde El Rancho Para El Mundo” Orlando Corona
DESCRIPTION:Reception: July 18\, 6:00 – 8:00pm \nOrlando Corona is a professional visual artist specializing in painting\, printmaking\, murals and\nteaching. After finding his passion for printmaking in his high school art class\, he became\ncaptivated by art and began exploring printing and painting. In 2022\, Orlando was accepted into\nthe Brandon Fellowship program at the Greenville Center for Creative Arts\, providing a pivotal\ncatalyst for his career\, and becoming a full-time artist shortly after leaving the program. Orlando\nhas a passion for being involved in the community and helping others\, often working with local\nnon-profits\, artists and organizations. \nOriginally from Guanajuato\, Mexico\, Orlando moved to Greenville\, South Carolina at the age of\n10 with his family. Orlando draws deep inspirations from his roots as a first-generation Mexican\nimmigrant\, often sharing stories and memories of his childhood in rural Mexico. His intentions\nare about creating artwork that captures personal elements through his unique style\, while\nsharing his culture\, telling stories and making fine art everyone can enjoy. He aims to inspire\nothers through his work and be an integral part of his community and the world. \n  \n“Desde El Rancho Para El Mundo” aims to capture the essence of the small Mexican town I\ngrew up in with an exploration through multiple mediums and techniques. The work in this show\ntells personal and cultural tales and shows the beauty of my childhood home- an attempt to\ncapture the magic on paper and canvas. It will be some people’s first introduction to myself and\nmy identity that I am proud to showcase this way. This show is about taking more chances in my\ncraft\, feeling free to explore my art and show the wealth of myself as an artist and individual.
