SUMMARY:“Consensus UNreality” | Tyler Ashe Solo Show and Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Save the date to see a fantastic new show in the Good Art Co. Makerspace Gallery: “Consensus UNreality” 🤩 \n* Official Opening Reception & First Friday Art Party: August 7th\, 6p—9pm * \nConsensus UNreality\, local Upstate SC-based artist Tyler Ashe’s debut solo exhibition\, recaptures the magic of what’s all around us (and what isn’t). With unabashed use of vivid color and expressive brushwork\, these acrylic works depict uncommon animals and creatures in surrealistic settings that are unmoored to expectation and time. Tyler’s work is meant to be raw and approachable\, drawing in the viewer and keeping them close with detailed settings that invite closer inspection and individual interpretation. \nThe focus on wildlife as the primary subject matter allows the viewer to be reintroduced to the sacredness of the animals around us. This is reflected in the show’s secondary goal of raising money for farm animal sanctuaries. The current featured Farm Animal Rescue\, Wild Pines Sanctuary in Union\, SC\, will receive 50% of all artist proceeds\, including originals and prints\, for the duration of this show. \nTyler’s animals find themselves in liminal\, dreamlike worlds\, drawing inspiration from the fragmented collective zeitgeist shaped by our ever-fracturing views of history\, spirituality\, and reality itself. They exist in spiritual half-worlds\, often portrayed through the amphibian meeting of water and land\, cementing the idea of not fully belonging to either world. Despite the degradation around them\, the animals persevere.

SUMMARY:2-Day Pastel Portrait Workshop with Christine Swann
DESCRIPTION:September 19th-20th\, 9:30am-4:00pm \nBuild a portrait over this 2-day workshop using the 5-layer process of master pastelist\, Christine Swann. Along with learning how to control the pastel medium\, students will learn about the Law of Light and the Rules of Light to paint anything more realistically. You will never paint the same way again. \nMATERIALS LIST : \nPAPER – a gritted\, pastel surface will be supplied. \nPORTRAIT REFERENCE – will need a photo reference to use for the classes. I will supply the reference I am using to everyone in the class or you can use any reference that you want to draw from of your own as long as it meets the following criteria: \nIt has a strong lit area on the face. \nIt has some shadows somewhere on the face. \nIt has clear highlights on the face. This is very important! \nIt is large enough and clear enough to see the “crease” above the lash line above the eyes. If you can not clearly see this line in the photo then the photo reference will not be good enough to work from. I suggest you use mine. \nIt will be beneficial to get pencils in the following colors because as we go along in the initial drawing\, it is beneficial to change colors and “reset” the drawing in newer\, darker colors. The key is to get at least 4 values and color changes – from a light ochre color up to darker browns and then a black. Any brands are fine. \nA yellow pencil will also be needed. If you only have one yellow pencil\, just keep an exacto blade nearby to sharpen as needed. \nThe brands of pencils do not matter. I use different brands. I keep an Exacto blade nearby\, but I never worry about a “perfect” point.  You should not either. \nPASTELS – You will need pastel sticks from each “category” below. *The 3/4 power category is optional. The more low-chroma colors the better in each category. Please don’t feel as though you need to buy more sticks. I am a big believer in not having to have every single brand out there. As long as you have a pretty good range of colors in at least one brand in each of the categories below you are all set. The more pastel pencils the better. \nPastel CATEGORIES: \nLOW POWER – all pastel pencils (no matter what brand) Rembrandts\, Nupastels\, Creatacolors or any old square Grumbachers ***Please bring as many pastel pencils as you can. \nMEDIUM POWER – Giraults\, Winsor Newton\, Blue Earth\, Diane Townsend\, Mount Vision\, Unisons\, Older Richesons or any old round Grumbachers\, \n3/4 POWER– OPTIONAL — Terry Ludwigs\, Newer Richesons\, Schminckes\, Ming Art Pastels \nHIGH POWER – Senneliers\, Great Americans\, Roches \nIf you have questions on what you have or what you need\, please reach out. \nChristine @swannportraits.com
