DESCRIPTION:SUBMIT YOUR POEMS! Wits End Poetry is proud to announce the launch of the GVL Poetry Trail\, a new interactive cultural experience bringing the power of the written and spoken word to Greenville’s public spaces\, businesses\, and parks. In anticipation of the organization’s 25th anniversary in 2027 and to celebrate National Poetry Month\, the project invites Greenville County poets to submit original work by April 15th for a chance to be featured in this city-wide installation slated for summer June 2026. \nMore information on submissions can be found on the Wits End Poetry Blog witsendpoetry.blogspot.com. Poets will receive a $50 prize\, publication of their winning poem\, public display as part of a rotating stop on the GVL Poetry Trail\, and be invited to read their poems at a celebratory GVL Poetry Trail Launch Reading on Sunday May 10th. Feature ShAy Black is a 30-year retired U.S Army veteran poet\, visual and teaching artist\, youth advocate\, business owner of ShAy Black Expressions from Greenville\, SC. She started writing poetry in 2016 after the death of son. She​ ​attended​ ​Converse College where she received a BFA in ceramics & sculpture and MFA in creative writing in poetry. Her passion is to teach young artists the joy of creating art as a SmartArts instructor with Metropolitan Art Council and Art Reaching Middle Elementary Schools (ARMES) with Greenville County School district. Her business is rooted in transformation—writing and creating to inspire others to look inward for healing and truth. Navigating grief\, depression\, and anxiety\, She uses her craft to reclaim her identity beyond pain. She believes in the power of art as a gathering place—a way to bridge cultural divides and foster healing\, one heArt at a time. She is a four-time team member of the Say What?!
