SUMMARY:Hidden Pictures Art Exhibition by Tim Davis—Highlights Most Prolific Creator
DESCRIPTION:Hidden Pictures encourage observers to study each scene\, to fully take it in—perhaps noticing more than the obvious. They sharpen our perception. \nThis will be Tim’s first one-man show since college graduation. 600 Hidden Pictures later\, with the help of several Highlights magazine friends—we’ll be hanging some 350 hidden objects (in about 28 illustrations). For this exhibit\, we’ve listed the items to look for in each illustration\, but not included the answer keys. So look carefully. See if you can find them all. \nThis exhibition runs through September 4\, 2026.

SUMMARY:Blossoms of Current: Matthew C. Martin
DESCRIPTION:Art & Light Gallery is pleased to announce Blossoms of Current\, an exhibition and pop-up of innovative\, multidimensional anodized titanium work by guest artist Matthew C. Martin (Anderson\, S.C.). Blossoms of Current launches on the Art & Light website and in the gallery at 10am (EST) on Tuesday\, July 7 with an opening reception on Friday\, July 10 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. A pop-up with the artist featuring Martin’s custom fountain pens\, paperweights\, and new collection of art is scheduled for Saturday\, July 11 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. \nIn Blossoms of Current\, Martin’s collection pushes the boundaries of science and contemporary art by utilizing electrical anodizing on titanium\, a high-performance industrial metal. While the electrochemical process of creating a colorful oxide layer through controlled electrical currents is typically reserved for advanced aerospace and biomedical manufacturing\, Martin has masterfully adapted the technique to create detailed\, painterly works of art. By pairing this technical chemical process with traditional hand-engraving\, Martin crafts vibrant\, luminous floral compositions directly onto titanium plates. Brilliant\, shifting hues emerge directly from the metallic surface\, while the meticulously hand-engraved textures are visually amplified by the vivid oxide layers. \nIn 2014\, Martin first began working with the electrical anodizing process to manufacture custom titanium fountain pens. After mastering the application of basic decorative colorations\, he began exploring its aesthetic potential on a larger scale. Following the creation of his first floral work on titanium plate\, he received an arts support grant in 2025 from the South Carolina Arts Commission to produce nine 12” x 12” works in anodized titanium. The South Carolina Arts Commission grant project offered Martin a valuable opportunity to research and develop new methods for anodizing.

SUMMARY:Brandon Fellowship Alumni Show\, In collaboration with the Greenville Center for the Arts: Nick Burns and Faith Hudgens
DESCRIPTION:A Celebratory Exhibition Supporting the Neighborhood Cancer Connection \nExhibition Dates: June – Aug. 31\, 2026 \nIn its latest showcase of the healing power of art\, The Neighborhood Cancer Connection is honored to present the “Brandon Fellowship Alumni Show\, in collaboration with the Greenville Center for the Arts” in its Gallery II. This vibrant yet deeply meaningful exhibition features paintings by Greenville natives Nick Burns and Faith Hudgens that explore hope\, resilience\, and the human experience. \nBoth Burns’ and Hudgens’ artistic successes are rooted the Brandon Fellowship\, a 12-month program launched in 2015 during the opening of the Greenville Center for Creative Arts (GCCA). Named in honor of the historic Brandon Mill\, this highly selective fellowship— it accepts only three artists a year—embodies GCCA’s core mission to foster artistic talent and professional success. \nTheir exhibition continues the Neighborhood Cancer Connection’s mission of exhibiting uplifting original artwork meant to create a comforting environment for patients and their families. Each piece is intended to provide a moment of reflection and encouragement to face the challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis. \nCreated with a combination of spray paint\, mixed media\, and contemporary techniques\, the three displayed pieces from Burns’ Avian Series explore hope through the symbolism of birds. These historically powerful symbols of freedom\, resilience\, wisdom\, renewal\, and the ability to rise above adversity reflect the cancer patients and caregivers NCC supports. Measuring 81-inches long\, Hudgens’ painting\, entitled “Peace of Mind\,” was created during what she described as “one of the most transformative and emotional seasons of my life: while my grandmother was transitioning during her battle with leukemia.” The piece not only is a tribute to her grandmother but also is a message of comfort to those facing cancer\, those who are caregivers\, and those facing grief\, recovery\, or any season of uncertainty. \nAbout the Artists \nNick Burns\, who creates under the alias Ninja Picasso\, is known for his murals around Greenville\, including one titled “Seen | Heard | Valued” at the Triune Mercy Center. Spanning 47 feet\, it depicts eight stories of hope from individuals who have experienced homelessness. Both his large-scale and live paintings bridge the gap between sophisticated street art and community storytelling. Each is created with Burns’ unique creative philosophy of focusing on the art rather than the artist\, while seeking to highlight the unnoticed narratives of the people around him. \nFaith Hudgens is a self-taught artist\, award-winning tattoo artist\, creative entrepreneur\, and muralist. In 2024\, she collaborated with Brandon Fellowship alumni RaAmen Stallings and Orlando Corona to create a mural at The Commons\, Unity Park’s food hall\, celebrating Greenville-native and Grammy- and Academy-Award-winning singer Peabo Bryson. Through color\, texture\, and symbolism\, her bold artwork – often rendered in oil and acrylic paint on large-scale canvases – tells stories that reflect the complexity of the human experience\, especially the moments of strength found in vulnerability. \nThe Brandon Fellowship exhibition builds on The Color of Hope: Where Nature Dances\, featuring colorful nature-inspired paintings by award-winning artists Allison Ford and Caroline Calder\, on display in “the art gallery at NCC” through Sept. 4. \nA portion of all proceeds from both exhibitions will benefit The Neighborhood Cancer Connection\, a nonprofit organization based in Greenville\, S.C. Founded in 1965\, it is dedicated to supporting individuals and families navigating cancer. Through direct financial assistance\, emotional support\, and community-centered initiatives\, NCC addresses both the practical and human dimensions of care. \nThe galleries are open to the public during NCC’s business hours: Mondays to Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (the office is closed daily for lunch from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.) and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

SUMMARY:Michael Bauermeister: The Language of Wood
DESCRIPTION:Tryon Arts & Crafts School presents a major late-summer showcase celebrating the power\, texture\, and grain of regional and national woodwork. Headlined by master wood artist Michael Bauermeister\, this comprehensive exhibition brings together nationally recognized monumental sculpture alongside works by three premier TACS wood instructors and notable artisans from across the Blue Ridge and Foothills. \nMain Gallery: The Language of Wood by Michael Bauermeister\nThe Language of Wood presents a striking body of work exploring the dialogue between raw forest materials and human intention. Building on decades of studio practice in Missouri’s Ozark hills\, Bauermeister creates works from domestic hardwoods—primarily linden (basswood)\, walnut\, cherry\, and maple. \nRather than turning solid logs on a lathe\, Bauermeister meticulously laminates segments of hardwood lumber\, then hand-carves\, hollows\, and textures each piece using specialized hand tools and power-carving equipment. The results are imposing yet remarkably delicate sculptures that ripple\, wave\, and breathe. \nExhibition Highlights: \nMonumental Vessels: Tall\, segmented wood forms featuring flowing contour lines\, subtle dye applications\, and rhythmic carved surfaces. \nCarved Wall Reliefs: Multi-panel wall installations capturing the movement of wind\, water\, and geological strata through hand-carved channels and rich\, hand-applied patinas. \nSurface & Color: Milk paints\, dyes\, and oil finishes that accentuate and highlight underlying wood grain and tool marks. \nFeature Gallery: Fluid Form & The Foothills Wood Craft Showcase\nExhibiting in tandem with Bauermeister’s solo presentation\, two curated feature displays provide a regional context to the exhibition: \n1. Fluid Form: New Wood Instructors’ Spotlight\nHighlighting three studio woodworkers and TACS instructors: \nBrian Fireman: Merging an architectural background with a reverence for raw materials\, Fireman crafts fluid\, organic furniture and sculptural forms celebrating the natural character\, grain\, and live edges of local hardwoods. \nMark Gardner: Based in nearby Saluda\, NC\, Gardner is an internationally celebrated woodturner known for his clean\, mid-century-inspired vessel contours\, stepped rims\, and signature power-carved surface textures. \nWyatt Severs: A studio furniture maker specializing in both spindle turning and traditional green/hardwood joinery\, Severs presents pieces bridging clean functional design with hand-shaped sculptural details. \n2. Foothills Wood Craft Showcase\nA curated regional presentation celebrating both traditional and contemporary woodworking from talented craftspeople across the surrounding Foothills area\, celebrating local heritage alongside national studio masterworks. \nOpening Reception Details\nDate & Time: Thursday\, August 6\, 2026\, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM \nArtist Remarks: Brief opening remarks and Q&A at 6:15 PM \nHospitality: Refreshments and light bites served in the gallery and courtyard

SUMMARY:The Journey Continues
DESCRIPTION:Spoonbill Gallery invites you to a special birthday celebration and the opening of The Journey Continues\, a new solo exhibition by Greenville artist Sarkis Chorbadjian. \nThis captivating collection of abstract paintings is inspired by travel\, memory\, and the artist’s lifelong fascination with the ancient world. Rather than depicting specific destinations\, Sarkis’s work offers emotional responses to place\, discovery\, and the memories that shape us. Through rich layers of color\, texture\, and wax\, The Journey Continues explores the space between memory and imagination\, inviting viewers into a deeply personal yet universally resonant experience. \n“The opening of this exhibition falls on my birthday\, which makes this show especially meaningful\,” says Sarkis. “This voyage of discovery has been adventurous on so many levels\, and I can’t wait to share it through these new paintings. Each work is an invitation to travel with me\, to revisit memories\, imagine new destinations\, and continue the journey together.” \nJoin us on Friday\, August 7\, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM during Greenville’s First Fridays Gallery Crawl to celebrate Sarkis\, his birthday\, and this remarkable new body of work. Meet the artist\, discover the stories and inspirations behind the paintings\, and gain insight into his creative process while enjoying an evening of art\, conversation\, and celebration.

SUMMARY:Painting\, once again
DESCRIPTION:Again\, It Is Painting is the artist’s first solo exhibition.\nHaving devoted her early life to studying and practicing fine art\, the artist’s life revolved entirely around painting. This path was interrupted by marriage and immigration\, which brought isolation and disconnection from familiar communities\, leaving language and belonging difficult to navigate.\nPainting became a space to reconnect with the world. For someone whose words often falter\, the canvas became a language of its own—figures\, animals\, and scenes speaking where words could not.\nThis exhibition marks a personal return to painting\, an act of re-engaging with the world through the medium itself.
