SUMMARY:Artist Call for Monthly Rotating Gallery- Nov/Dec/Jan
DESCRIPTION:We’re building a rotating monthly exhibition designed to give local artists an interactive space to showcase their work\, connect with new audiences\, and sell their art in a beautiful event setting. \nEach month we will be showcasing 8-10 artists\, that will each have their own dedicated space to display their art and interact with the community. \nThe event space will have live jazz/acoustic music. And the art will be paired with wine & cocktails from Cats Pajamas bar and bites from Draper Purveying Co. \nThere will also be a People’s choice cash prize at the end for participating artists. \nWe welcome artists of all mediums and experience levels. \n*Live Artists Wanted Too! We would like to have a live artist at each event to add to the experience so apply if you’re interested! \nARTIST PARTICIPATION\nThe artist participation fee is just $50 for a dedicated 10×10 exhibition space.\nYour space includes a 6-foot table and black tablecloth\, and you can bring and display as much of your artwork as you can comfortably and appropriately showcase within your space. There is no additional fee per artwork.\n*If more display materials are needed such as easels\, let me know when you apply and we can accommodate that. \nOnce you apply\, your work will be reviewed for consideration. Artists who are selected will receive an Artist Exhibition Agreement with the full event details and requirements to officially secure their spot. \nNovember is almost full! We have just a couple of spots remaining\, and we’re currently accepting applications for December and January as well. \nIf you’ve been looking for a welcoming opportunity to put your work out there\, we’d love to see it. \nApply to exhibit: https://forms.gle/xhXziMcY9NRASzC89 \nThank you for supporting local art\, and we look forward to seeing what you’ve created!

SUMMARY:Here Today: Cassie Butcher and Jeremy Russell
DESCRIPTION:Art & Light Gallery presents Here Today an exhibition of work by Cassie Butcher (Asheville\, N.C.) and Jeremy Russell (Asheville\, N.C.) launching on the Art & Light website and in the gallery at 10am (EST) on Tuesday\, September 1 with an opening reception on Friday\, September 4 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM. \nCassie Butcher grew up in West Virginia and went to Berea College where she majored in Art and Psychology. Shortly after graduating\, she had the opportunity to go to the Penland School of Craft to study glaze chemistry. In March 2004\, Butcher was granted a resident artist position at Odyssey ClayWorks in Asheville\, N.C. where she continues to live and work today. She creates ceramic sculptures inspired by the way human beings relate to one another\, exploring human relationships and interactions. By stripping the figure of details that would lead to a specific identity\, she makes room for the viewer to create a personal reflective narrative and hopes to evoke a deeper sense of empathy. Butcher refers to these basic clay figures as “souls” because they touch on the essence of humanity\, rather than physical appearance or circumstance. In a world driven by individuality\, her sculptures remind viewers that we are not all that different at our core\, reconnecting us to each other through shared universal experience. For the exhibition Here Today\, the still\, contemplative nature of Cassie Butcher’s souls provides a moment of pause\, challenging viewers to fully enjoy and experience the moment they are currently in rather than rushing to the next thing. \nJeremy Russell\, an abstract expressionist landscape painter from Asheville\, N.C.\, received his BFA from the University of North Carolina\, Asheville. Prior to pursuing a full-time studio practice\, Russell established a robust technical foundation through his work as a muralist and a painter for theatrical sets\, cinematic productions\, and theme park attractions. His creative process investigates the inherent tension between chaos and structure. Russell’s landscape paintings dissolve the boundaries between abstract expressionism and tangible reality\, prioritizing the visceral sensation of a specific moment\, like the rush of a stream or the shift of light\, over a strictly representational rendering of the environment. In the Here Today exhibition Russell captures the experience of a specific\, passing moment by prioritizing the fleeting\, temporary nature of time\, light and feeling over static realism. By focusing on the movement of a stream or the shifting of light his paintings serve as a visual reminder of a precise time and place.

SUMMARY:Alla Prima: Painting in One Sitting
DESCRIPTION:Indirect painting teaches patience. Alla prima teaches decisiveness. \nIn this four-session course\, we explore direct painting – working wet into wet\, mixing color in real time\, and finishing a piece in a single sitting. It’s a different kind of discipline: less about correction\, more about commitment to the first true mark. \nWe’ll begin with a value and color theory primer\, then spend our first two sessions painting simple still life objects provided in studio – building the muscle of seeing a painting through to completion in one sitting\, learning when a passage is finished and when to put the brush down. \nIn the final two sessions\, you’ll bring an object of your own – something with weight\, history\, or meaning – and apply what we’ve built toward a painting that’s not just technically resolved\, but personal. \nOpen to all skill levels\, including beginners. No prior experience with oil painting is required – just curiosity and a willingness to work fast and trust your instincts. \nLimited to 6 students. \n$200 for all 4\, or $65 per session. \nDates:\nNov 17\, Nov 24\, Dec 1\, Dec 8 \nTime:\n6 PM – 8:30 PM
