SUMMARY:Meet Erma Bombeck – Portrayed by Susan Marie Frontczak
DESCRIPTION:Seating is limited and available on a first-come\, first-served basis. Come early to get a seat. Doors open at 1 pm. \nErma Bombeck captured with paring-knife-sharp humor the daily life of a new post-WWII American phenomenon: the suburban housewife. Having figured out from her own personal experience that if you can laugh at it you can live with it\, she chronicled the housewife’s daily struggles in her column “At Wit’s End” from 1965 to 1996\, eventually appearing in more than over 900 newspapers across the country. She also shared both poignant and hilarious observations in 12 books\, including the best sellers The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank and If Life is a Bowl of Cherries\, What Am I Doing in the Pits? Bombeck brought to American awareness the lives of homemakers whose efforts often felt invisible and taken for granted. Erma poked fun at kids\, diets\, husbands\, housework and\, especially\, herself. She let women across America know: you are not alone. In fact\, we number in the millions. I\, too\, am an American housewife and I will laugh by your side.

SUMMARY:DISCUSSION: Lucille Ball
DESCRIPTION:This event is a discussion\, not an in-character performance. \nIn the 1950s\, comedienne Lucille Ball captured the hearts of television audiences across the nation. Every week\, some 11 million families tuned in to watch I Love Lucy\, the CBS sitcom starring Ball and her real-life spouse Desi Arnaz. Her wacky hijinks and fearless enthusiasm kept thousands laughing. Off-screen\, she and Arnaz launched their own television studio and pioneered new technologies\, building a production empire. But even as her celebrity stature soared\, Ball sometimes struggled with the divergence between the onscreen Lucy Ricardo and the real-life woman offscreen. In this historical portrayal\, historian and actress Leslie Goddard brings Lucille Ball to life\, paying tribute to both the true comic legend and the real woman behind the myth.

SUMMARY:Albert Einstein portrayed by Larry Bounds
DESCRIPTION:No on site parking. Seating is limited and available on a first-come\, first-served basis. Come early to get a seat. Doors open at 10:30 am. \nAlbert Einstein was the most influential physicist of the 20th century. His ideas fundamentally changed our understanding of the nature of the universe. Newton’s ideas of absolute space and time were upended by Einstein’s concept of space/time – a universe in which\, if there was no matter\, there would be no space and no time.\nScience fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke explained Einstein’s appeal this way\, “Einstein’s unique combination of genius\, humanist\, pacifist\, and eccentric made him accessible – and even lovable – to tens of millions of people.”\nEinstein was no ordinary international celebrity. Charlie Chaplin once explained to Einstein why the scientist was often welcomed with applause by saying\, “They cheer me because they all understand me\, and they cheer you because no one understands you.” But\, in truth\, Einstein was able to make his revolutionary ideas understandable to the most advanced scientists and\, albeit to a lesser degree\, the general public.

SUMMARY:DISCUSSION: Babe Ruth
DESCRIPTION:This event is a discussion\, not an in-character performance. \nBabe Ruth is widely regarded as one of the greatest baseball players of all time\, even transcending baseball to become America’s first sports superstar. Known as “The Sultan of Swat” and “The Bambino\,” Ruth’s legendary career began as a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox before joining the New York Yankees and transforming into a home run-hitting outfielder. Ruth’s power and charisma revolutionized the game\, setting records with his prodigious home runs\, including a then-unprecedented 60 homers in the 1927 season. His larger-than-life personality\, combined with his on-field prowess captivated the nation in the Roaring Twenties and made him a national icon and one of the first true American celebrities. Ruth’s impact extended beyond baseball\, as he helped shape the modern sports industry and the concept of celebrity. A master of self-promotion\, Ruth embraced the media and new technologies to become a household name. His off-field antics sometimes overshadowed his achievements\, but his impact on the game and American culture remains undeniable. Ruth’s legacy endures\, symbolizing the American spirit of perseverance and outsized ambition.

SUMMARY:Greenville Chautauqua: Babe Ruth
DESCRIPTION:FREE. Father’s Day event. Seating is limited and available on a first-come\, first-served basis. Come early to get a seat. Doors open at 1 pm.

SUMMARY:Body In Color
DESCRIPTION:Body in Color \nAn Exhibition by Caroline Gates\, Jess Stone\, and Sara Touchet \nRiver Rock Art Studios and Gallery \n1001 Old Easley Highway • Greenville\, SC 29611 \nOpening Night: June 21st\, 6–9 PM \nThe human body has long been a canvas for emotion\, identity\, and story—and in Body in Color\, three artists merge their visions to celebrate its expressive power in bold\, vibrant hues. \nThis collaborative exhibit began with live models\, each one a muse for painter Caroline Gates\, who covered their forms with richly textured brush strokes. Sara Touchet\, a photographer known for capturing soulful\, transformative moments\, brought her lens to the same models\, revealing intimate visual narratives in light and shadow. Then\, Jess Stone\, an encaustic painter\, took Sara’s photographic prints and layered them with molten wax and pigment\, transforming them into tactile works of art. The circle closes with Caroline’s return to the canvas—this time painting new pieces inspired by the photographs\, completing a creative loop. \nEach artist brings their own relationship with the body—raw\, reverent\, empowered. Together\, they offer a fresh and layered interpretation of the human form: fluid\, colorful\, and alive. \nBody in Color is a visual dialogue between mediums\, artists\, and muses. It invites you to witness the body not just as subject\, but as story\, memory\, and metaphor—wrapped in color\, movement\, and meaning. \nJoin us at River Rock Art Studios and Gallery on June 21st from 6 to 9 PM for an evening of art\, community\, and celebration of the body in all its expressive glory.

SUMMARY:Reflections: a Monica Iversen Solo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Rekindle childlike joy. Discover timeless stories in whimsical scenes. Slow down\, look closer\, and smile. \nThis is what awaits you in “Reflections\,” a new immersive solo exhibition of work by Monica Iversen. In “Reflections\,” Iversen invites viewers into a world where memory\, emotion\, and storytelling converge through the lens of childhood. Featuring a collection of oil paintings that spotlight vintage toys and children—primarily from the 1960s and earlier\, with many one-of-a-kind props on view as well—this exhibition draws on the universal language of nostalgia to spark both joy and introspection. \nEach work tells a rich and layered story\, capturing fleeting moments and small wonders that often go unnoticed in our hurried lives. Through richly layered narratives\, the paintings encourage viewers to slow down and reconnect with the simple\, meaningful details of life. \n“In a fast-paced world\, we don’t slow down long enough to appreciate the little things\,” the artist says. “I hope my work will cause people to hit the pause button in their life.” \n“Reflections” is a gentle reminder of the beauty in the everyday\, the charm of the past\, and the emotional resonance found in seemingly ordinary moments. \nINFO ON EXHIBITION + EVENTS: \n**Official Opening and First Friday Art Party: Friday July 11th\, 6pm—9pm** \n**Artist Talk and Reception: Tuesday July 15th\, 6pm—8pm** \n**August First Friday Art Party: August 1st\, 6pm—9pm** \n**4-Day Workshop with the Artist: “Painting Dynamic Landscapes in Oil” | August 11th\, 13th\, 18th\, and 20th\, from 6pm—9pm** \nLearn more about the show and workshops: www.getgoodart.co \nLearn more about Monica Iversen’s work: www.iversenfineart.com

SUMMARY:Rhythm and Flow
DESCRIPTION:Art & Light Gallery is happy to present Rhythm and Flow a solo exhibition of work by Daniel Klewer (Myrtle Beach\, S.C.) launching on the Art & Light website and in the gallery at 10:00 AM (EST) on Tuesday\, July 8 with an opening reception on Friday\, July 11 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. \nDaniel Klewer was born and raised in Milwaukee\, Wisconsin and majored in art at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. He also earned a Master of Arts in visual studies degree from Cardinal Stritch University\, Glendale\, Wisconsin. Klewer is largely recognized for his unconventional painting process\, characterized by a shift away from the use of a paintbrush and evidence of brushstrokes. His work often involves applying paint with non-traditional methods\, exploring color and texture through various techniques. Daniel’s love of the material properties of paint is evident in his treatment of abstract painted surfaces. He enjoys a meditative\, sequential process where the spontaneity of the material is allowed to influence the direction of the work. \nDaniel states\, “Light and color are driving forces in my work as I explore chromatic and tonal shifts. Primarily using a brushless paint application that stretches the paint’s physical qualities\, the textured surfaces of the paintings document investigations into the relationship between paintings and sculpture. My work flows between vibrant spontaneity and meditative minimalism as it reflects my pursuit of painting as a contemplative\, perceptual experience. The composition and colors explore how surfaces can communicate a story.”
