SUMMARY:Cowpens Potters - The Work of Winton & Rosa Eugene Exhibit & Public Reception
DESCRIPTION:Public Reception: March 12\, 6:30 – 7:30pm\nRuntime: March 13 – May 8\, 2026 \nTryon Arts & Crafts School (TACS) is proud to exhibit the work and artistic legacy of celebrated artists Winton and Rosa Eugene. Married in 1968\, the Eugenes are mainstays of the vibrant Southern craft tradition that is clay. Their history in ceramics began in 1986 as a second career. They devoted themselves to studying the medium and built a commercially successful studio\, Pottery by Eugene\, operating in Cowpens\, South Carolina. They typically collaborate to create vibrant\, distinctive stoneware including functional wares\, face jugs\, as well as larger sculptural pieces. American Craft magazine called them “a marriage of making.” As Rosa wrote\, “Winton loves design and I am captured by shapes and colors. In our creative dance\, we combine these passions so that the final product moves with balance and harmony.” \nThe Eugene’s dedication to their craft has earned them wide-ranging acclaim and recognition. Their pottery is frequently featured in major collections and exhibitions throughout the region and beyond. By 2000\, they were selected as members of the African-American Design Archive at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum at the Smithsonian Institution in New York. In 2016\, the couple received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Carolina Upstate (where Rosa also graduated)\, recognizing their significant contributions. Their commitment extends beyond creation\, as they have spent years sharing the history\, techniques\, and cultural importance of their artistic lineage\, particularly within the African American ceramic art traditions of the Upstate region of South Carolina. \nThe pieces exhibited at TACS are richly varied in size\, form\, and function but all showcase the Eugenes’ deep mastery of the ceramic medium. The works’ rich glazes and tactile textures often comment on contemporary social issues such as community\, history\, civil rights\, and more. Much of their work tells stories relating to their lives and values\, suggesting the rich possibilities of meaning embedded in their work.

SUMMARY:Justin Ray - A Jazz Underground Sampler
DESCRIPTION:Trumpeter and vocalist extraordinaire Justin Ray brings a program to town with a little of everything you come to the Jazz Underground to hear: Standards\, premieres of original music\, beautiful ballads\, and high-energy romps. \nIf you think a musician who plays trumpet and sings is unusual\, we only have to point first to Louis Armstrong who created the template for both in jazz. Justin Ray also builds upon the legacy of Chet Baker\, who charted with both instrumentals and vocals starting in the 1950s. (Yes\, and the hippest among you might also throw in Jack Sheldon…) \nOn top of that\, Justin is an educator\, composer\, and arranger. In addition to touring with Michael Buble’s band on trumpet\, he also worked for him writing and arranging. So he’s bringing 20 years of high-profile performance experience to Greenville in March! \nThey’ll be performing in our venue\, the Coffee Underground Theater\, which is an intimate listening room which also serves homemade desserts\, delicious coffee from beans roasted on premises\, and an assortment of teas\, wine\, and cocktails.

DESCRIPTION:ART EXHIBITION PROPOSAL GUIDELINES \nWe are your neighbors! The Neighborhood Cancer Connection has supported Greenville’s cancer patients and their families for 60+ years and has thousands of visitors and clients each year. We’re all about connecting and offering support; belonging makes life worth living. We also believe that art lifts the spirit. \nPartner with Us: We have opened a significant and beautiful space for exhibitions: the art gallery @ NCC within our new building at 113 Mills Ave. One or two local artists will be exhibited each quarter; each artist will have three months of exhibition time. The gallery is open to the public during the center’s business hours. \nThe Space: Your artwork will be displayed on a total of 41’ of linear wall space in our inviting\, light-filled second-floor mezzanine and hallways. Floor plan with measurements is attached (red lines indicate available wall space). This is a beautiful area ideal for artist receptions and talks. \nThe Art: We seek proposals for art for our 2026 exhibits that align with the NCC’s mission to equip patients and their caregivers for the most successful journey through cancer. We wish to give our clients respite from their challenges and uplift their spirits. We seek original artwork that conveys healing\, wellness\, connectedness\, and/or recovery. Artists should be from the Upstate region and easily accessible to the gallery. \nArtwork selection will be made in coordination with the NCC’s board member and Art Liaison Emily Randolph. All work must be 2D and be wired for hanging. \nTerms: There is no submission fee. Your artwork will be made available for sale with 100% of the sale going to and handled directly by the artist. SUMMARY:Say What?! Team at Coffee Underground featuring Azar King
DESCRIPTION:Say What?! Open Mic is at Coffee Underground on Sunday with Team Feature Azar King! Host Kimberly Simms. All poetry styles welcome! The night will also feature open mic slots for local poets on a first-come\, first serve basis. Open mic poets may read/recite one poem. \nAzar King—P.O.E.T\, POEMEDIAN\, FATHER\, CREATIVE—is a clear example of what never giving up looks like. Originally from Myrtle Beach\, SC\, he has been residing in Greenville\, SC for the last 5 years. Rather than call his poems poetry\, he has simply titled them The Scriptures of My Legacy. He won back-to-back slams in Fountain Inn and went on to rank at the top in slams across states\, finishing second in both the King of the South Slam and Grand Slam in 2024. A member of the Say What Slam Team for 3 years\, he often describes himself as a Tornado\, giving you a twist of words with clear imagery. From Big M boots to designer suits\, he refuses to let his past hinder his future. And with aliases such as MR.GOOOTTTDDDAAAAYYYUUMMMHIMSELF and Azar-15\, his lyrics are definitely LAZAR BEAMZ. \nCoffee Underground\, Greenville\, SC 29601. 7:30 pm. $10. Produced by Wits End Poetry.

SUMMARY:Retranslation
DESCRIPTION:Tiger Strikes Asteroid\, Greenville presents Retranslation\, a group exhibit and critique of colonialism and the traditional archive. Artists Rosalba Breazeale\, Bonnie Han Jones and Benjamin Lundberg Torres Sanchez each cultivate a community influenced by their own personal journeys as transnational adoptees. By breaking apart stereotypical narratives through the creation and translation of their own archives\, they challenge the trope of adoptees lacking identity. Together\, these artists utilize their intersectional positionality to examine indigeneity\, activism and identity in their work\, their in-betweenness becoming both end point and a catalyst for agency. \nThe opening reception will be Friday\, March 6 and there will be a virtual artist talk on March 12 at 5pm in conjunction with El Centro\, University of South Carolina Upstate.

SUMMARY:Diane Kilgore Condon Solo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Art & Light Gallery is thrilled to present a solo exhibition of work by Diane Kilgore Condon launching on Tuesday\, March 3 with an opening reception on Friday\, March 6 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. \nDiane Kilgore Condon was born in Wisconsin and moved from Florida to Greenville in 1983 to attend Bob Jones University. Kilgore Condon has had solo exhibitions at the Greenville County Museum of Art and Bob Jones University. Her work has been included in group exhibitions throughout South Carolina and beyond\, including the Morris Museum of Art in Augusta\, GA\, the Burroughs and Chapin Museum in Myrtle Beach\, the Sumter County Gallery of Art\, the City Gallery at Waterfront Park in Charleston and the Pickens County Museum of Art and History. Kilgore Condon is among South Carolina’s most prolific and respected painters. She is the owner of Greenville’s Artbomb Studios. Established in 2001 in the Village of West Greenville\, Art Bomb launched what is now Greenville’s most important arts district. \nMemory and experience in the natural world significantly influence Kilgore Condon’s prolific painting practice. Flora and fauna inspire her compositions while a deeper narrative that relates to personal history influences the painted worlds that Kilgore Condon creates. The rich build up of color and densely painted compositions elicit the feeling of time passing while simultaneously evoking a sense of urgency. It’s as though the viewer is witnessing a spectacular event that happens so quickly it might be missed if not for the careful control of Kilgore Condon’s brush and the dexterity with which she is able to articulate the splendor that exists in places uncommon to observation.
