SUMMARY:Capturing Light in Oils
DESCRIPTION:Our perception of the visual world is dependent on light. In order to learn to paint life convincingly\, one must learn how to translate into paint the light that falls upon the things we see. This workshop will focus on painting directly from life and realizing the visual effect early in the painting process\, avoiding preliminary drawing. This is to keep interest and energy throughout the process and to convey a sense of life and joy in the painting. Students will explore the use of color\, value\, paint quality\, edges\, and brushstroke in oil paint. There will be a demonstration each morning and students will design their still life set ups from the objects\, fruit and flowers provided. Students are welcome to bring some of their own objects if they choose. This class is appropriate for all levels. Students bring their own painting materials. A supply list will be provided.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Oil Painting (Indirect Methods)
DESCRIPTION:Discover the exciting and unique properties of oil painting in this oil painting class designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike as we create a traditional still life painting. Why must a canvas be primed? Why should you not finger paint with oils (and why we do anyways)? \nBasic Techniques: Learn fundamental techniques of indirect oil painting\, starting from a grisaille (under painting) and moving to glazing (transparent washes of paint) and scumbling (opaque application of paint). \nComposition: Discover how to direct your viewer’s eye through placement of objects and colors in your painting. \nColor Theory: Understand the basics of color theory and how to create harmonious palettes in your paintings. \nPersonal Expression: Discover ways to express your unique artistic voice through the medium of oil paint. \nClass Format: \nThis hands-on course combines demonstrations\, practical exercises\, and individualized instruction to help you build confidence and proficiency in oil painting. We will examine still life paintings from art history and see how to use their techniques for our own works. \nWho Should Attend: \nThis class is perfect for beginners with no prior experience in oil painting and intermediate artists looking to build on their techniques. \nMaterials: \nA list of required materials will be provided upon registration.

SUMMARY:Workshop: Painting Dynamic Landscapes in Oil
DESCRIPTION:4-Session Workshop: “Painting Dynamic Landscapes in Oil”| From 6pm-9pm on August 11th\, 13th\, 18th\, and 20th | Taught by acclaimed artist Monica Iversen at Good Art Co. | $250 per person \nDon’t miss your chance for a rare hands-on learning experience with an award-winning artist\, Monica Iversen! Over the course of four sessions\, you’ll learn Monica’s unique process\, acquire new techniques and skills to paint realistic and enchanting landscapes\, create new work of your own to take home or add to your portfolio\, and mix and mingle with a small group of other creative folks sure to become friends. \nAll supplies will be provided. All skill levels welcome! Arrival and departure times are flexible\, but we encourage you to make the most out of your sessions. Parking is available on-site. \nAbout the teaching artist: \nMonica Iversen’s artistic journey began in the surroundings of her father’s NY studio\, where she first learned the techniques of classic realism. Inspired by the works of the Dutch Masters\, Monica’s oil paintings are vibrant expressions of color and intricate storytelling. Her work evokes a sense of nostalgia\, intertwined with complex narratives. Admirers often liken her work to a collaboration between Norman Rockwell and Salvador Dali\, where the familiar meets the surreal. Her art can be seen in museums and at prestigious exhibits across the North and Southeastern United States. \nAbout Iversen’s current show at Good Art Co.: \n“Reflections: a Solo Exhibition of new work by Monica Iversen” at Good Art Co. invites people of all ages to explore memories\, rekindle childlike joy\, and smile their way through timeless stories brought to life through hyper-realistic paintings. Iversen invites viewers into a world where memory\, emotion\, and storytelling converge through the lens of childhood. Featuring a collection of oil paintings that spotlight vintage toys and children—primarily from the 1960s and earlier—this exhibition draws on the universal language of nostalgia to spark both joy and introspection.

SUMMARY:Handmade Baskets & Prongs
DESCRIPTION:In this course\, intermediate to advanced silversmithing students will be introduced to the technical aspects of both creating their own basket settings and prong setting faceted stones. Students will have the opportunity to practice and develop their own personal skills in basket fabrication and in prong setting stones. Skills learned can be applied to all future projects. \nNOTE: The goal of this class is strictly technical. Students will not focus on making a ‘final piece’ in this workshop\, rather\, they will focus intently on developing the skills to effectively and accurately create custom baskets. Students who have never prong set will also practice this separately. \nThe cost of this class does not include the cost of silver. Students can bring their own faceted stone (round or oval) that are at least 9mm in size. If students don’t have their own stones\, Katie will have some inexpensive practice stones to choose from on site. \n*If advanced students have a project near completion they would like to make a setting for\, they are encouraged to bring this with them to assemble and finish. Examples would be a bracelet\, pendant\, or ring with all other features already fabricated. Please don’t plan to make a piece AND a setting in this class — there simply will not be time. \nPrerequisite: Some prior silversmithing experience is helpful\, including proficiencies in sawing\, soldering\, and bezel setting.
