SUMMARY:Call for photography subjects: Furman Senior Seminar LGBTQ+ Project
DESCRIPTION:My name is Alex Aradas\, and I am a senior double major in Studio Art and Politics at Furman. As part of my studio seminar this fall\, I’m working on a political photography project\, and I want to connect with LGBTQIA+ community members who are interested in being photographed. \nMy photography project explores themes of Queerness\, politics\, and resilience through portraiture and still life. The portraits will feature individuals\, couples\, and groups\, each accompanied by a personal object of significance. Participants are encouraged to bring something meaningful\, invite others if they wish\, and select a location that evokes joy\, safety\, or comfort. By allowing participants to choose a space\, objects\, and people that have meaning to them\, the project emphasizes both personal and collective representation. In the exhibition space\, these images will be placed in dialogue with anti-LBGTQ+ political quotes and policies from the Trump administration and other figures in power. Through this project\, my goal is to confront anti-LBGTQ+ sentiment\, challenge viewers to reflect on the futures shaped by such voices\, and affirm the strength\, visibility\, and resilience of the Queer community.

We also believe that art lifts the spirit. \nPartner with Us:\nCurrently\, our stunning new building at 113 Mills Ave. is adorned with art donated by local artists. Now\, we have opened a significant and beautiful space for exhibitions: the art gallery @ NCC\, and we are creating a flexible program tailored to you. One or two local artists will be exhibited each quarter; each artist will have three months of exhibition time. \nThe Space:\nYour artwork will be displayed on a total of 41’ of linear wall space in our inviting\, light-filled second-floor mezzanine and hallways. Floor plan with measurements is attached (red lines indicate available wall space). This is a beautiful area ideal for artist receptions and talks. \nThe Art:\nWe seek proposals for art for our 2026 exhibits that align with the NCC’s mission to equip patients and their caregivers for the most successful journey through cancer. We wish to give our clients respite from their challenges and uplift their spirits. We seek original artwork that conveys healing\, wellness\, connectedness\, and/or recovery. \nArtwork selection will be made in coordination with the NCC’s Art Gallery Director Emily Randolph. All work must be 2D and be wired for hanging. \nTerms:\nThere is no submission fee. Your artwork will be made available for sale with 100% of the sale going to and handled directly by the artist.
