Artist Statement

Inspiration from nature guides my images. I want the paintings to represent truth, yet truth and imagination go hand in hand. I rely on photographs for structure, but find plein air sketches help remove distortions of the lens. I find challenge in abstraction because paintings should capture the essence of a scene, something not always found in the camera. I love bright colors and muted atmospheres. Painting is extracting beautiful images that hold drama and mystery and yet capture the substance of reality.
