"Crossing Over"
Raku clay, multifired with underglaze and low fire glazes
12" x 5" x 4"

Angelique Brickner

I begin with a thought, an idea or a feeling, and a large lump of clay. I carve and dig at the clay until the image exposes itself. Then I start the practical, technical plan to assure a successful firing process. I may coil, slab build or hollow the solid form; the choice depends on my ability to retain the natural integrity of the form. I work figuratively because the human form and countenance communicate to us innately, as it is recognized. The language of the body is universal; it can be immediately understood. We don’t have to first learn a new language in order to understand the message. I appreciate the pure simplicity; as pure and simple as a lump of clay.
