Figure Drawing
A 4-week course providing guided instruction in drawing from the live human figure designed for those with little to moderate experience drawing from a live model. It is structured to provide a high level of individual attention for each student and enable them to learn to quickly and effectively draw from life.
COST: $175 Course fee covers four-weeks of instruction, all necessary supplies and model fees. All you need to bring to class is yourself.

Simplifying the Landscape - Finding rhythm in shapes and using color dominance to create drama. We will use a values study and restrict our palettes. Will be working on a winter landscape during this session. Subject matter/photo to be emailed with registration.

Beginner Level - Step by step instructions. Explore blending and shadowing, controlling water, painting three dimensionally. As you work through the class compositions, you will explore your own use of color and this beautiful medium.

Beginning Tuesday, February 7th, continuing for 8 weeks.

Art classes with Julia Peters are not structured to every student doing the same thing. For example, while you may want to be working in oils, your neighbor may be working in watercolor. Julia works with each student individually. It's like having a semi-private lesson! You choose your own subject matter and work at your own pace in a casual, artistic atmosphere.
Classes meet once a week for an entire session. We offer 3, 4, 8 and 10 week sessions. Morning classes are held from 10 am to 1 pm on Monday through Friday. Evening classes are held from 6:30 pm through 8:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.

Dévoré Velvet Workshop
On January 28, 2012, Christine Mariotti with teach the process of creating dévoré velvet at Tryon Arts and Crafts School. Dévoré, from the French dévorer, meaning to devour or to destroy, is a process in which the cellulose part of a composite fabric is eaten away. In the workshop, students will etch their own designs into silk/rayon velvet, and use a combination of dyeing and dye discharging to color the velvet. The workshop will yield several samples and one long scarf.
The instructor, Christine Mariotti has been a textile instructor and professional fiber artist for over 30 years and has exhibited her silk scarves in many local galleries around Tryon including the gift shop at Tryon Arts and Crafts.
This workshop will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012, from 10 am to 5pm. There will be a small fee per person to cover materials.

Intro to Drawing w/ Lindsay Moore
Tuesdays from 9:30 to noon, starting on February 7, The class will run 6 weeks. Lindsay has been teaching drawing classes in Spartanburg and has produced many commissioned paintings for clients in the Tryon area. His approach to drawing is personal and very encouraging of beginning artists as well as those who just need more direction in their personal style. He will be using basic materials that most everyone has and the subjects will be people, places, and things found at home .

Friday mornings from 9:00 until noon. Margie is know for her oil landscapes of local North Carolina scenes and has an impressionistic approach to color and soft brushstrokes. She has studied with several nationally known masters and has many years experience in painting oils.
Ongoing figure drawing studio meets weekly on Thursday evenings from 6:00pm until 9:00 and Saturday mornings from 9:00am until noon. Each session features nude models for both short and long posed studies . No instruction is given during these classes, but classes are monitored by artists, Dick Neff or Mike McCarthy.
A small fee is charged to cover the model fee.

Sunday afternoons, join Village Studios & Gallery to work from a live model. This non-instructional, 2-hour session begins with gesture warm-ups, and remaining poses are 15 – 50 min. BYOB easels, drawing boards and drawing supplies. Chairs are available. A sink is provided if you prefer to work in oils, but please be tidy.
