Call for Artists
You have the opportunity to showcase and sell your artwork at a unique charity event held at TWIGS Tempietto, May 3rd, 2012! This will be a unique intimate evening with 250 guests to view your art. A spring supper, music, auctions, and other exciting activities will linger with the beautiful atmosphere in the "garden". All of the proceeds--except for artists' sales of their art--will benefit pancreas research, as the founder of this event is a local artist who suffers from a devastating illness of the pancreas. Check out the attached the application if you are interested. Only 10 artists will be chosen, so you have a wonderful opportunity to have great exposure and your name will be printed in advertising for the event. If you would like to read more about the pancreas and the artists personal memoir, go to crankypanky.com. Thanks for considering showcasing your art and supporting such a worthy cause!!
Call to Artists - African American Fine Arts & Crafts Festival
The Historic Freetown Community presents its first African-American Fine Arts & Crafts Festival February 24 and 25, 2012. Freetown, located on the west side of Greenville (near Graceland Cemetary), was founded after the Civil War by former slaves migrating from Pickens County.
This newly revitalized community still echoes of past history and there is no better place than at the Freetown Community Center to kick off Greenville’s first African-American Fine Arts and Crafts.
More information and an application is attached. Deadline is JANUARY 6, 2012.
If you have any questions please contact Michael Allen at (864) 434-1574 or send an email to meallen@live.com.
Mini Book Collective Calling for Entries!
The Mini Book Collective and Art & Light Gallery present a project to create small books reflecting a sense of place that share one's experiences of Greenville County. The idea is based on the international project from the UK, SomethinkCollective/The Collective Atlas.
The project is open call to all artists (painters, drawers, photographers, printmakers, et al), architects, writers, collaborators...
For details, prospectus and entry form: www.minibookcollective.org.
Cash and other prizes will be awarded, no submission fee, no limit to number of submissions per artist.
Submission Deadline: Wednesday, February 29th, 2012 (place for actual submission TBA)
The works will be exhibited alongside 25 works from the UK's Somethink Collective at Art & Light, as well as at other venues, TBA.
Opening Reception for the Art & Light exhibit: April 6, 2012
Art and Light, 1211 Pendleton Street
General idea of making the book:
The book must be made from one A3 (16.5" x 11.7") or A4 (11.7" x 8.3") sheet or card and can be folded into the format you want. Cuts can be made but the sheet must remain relatively whole -- so not cut in half, etc. You can use one or both sides of the sheet and use any media. That could include computer generation, watercolor, drawing, collage, oil/acrylics, photography, printmaking techniques, sewing, etc.
The UK site, SomethinkCollective, has examples: http://somethinkcollective.blogspot.com/
